Mark Holmes, What A Fan Awards Nominee

Meet Mark "Jobu" Holmes, 2015 What A Fan Awards NFL Fan of the Year Nominee. Mark is a true blue Dallas Cowboy fan and has an alter ego that has become a popular fixture among the Cowboys Players, cheerleaders and fan faithful. We've been following them both for many years now and had the opportunity to see them at work in Phoenix at last years Super Bowl, he's an interesting character and awesome fan.

Sports fans have been an important part of the explosive success both collegiate and professional athletics has enjoyed. In 2013 a recognition award show was created to honor fans and their contribution to the sports industry it's called the What A Fan Awards. Its been held in Orlando Florida but will be relocated to Los Angeles California in 2016. Over the coming weeks we're going to introduce you to some of the countries most devoted fans of all genres of sports  in their own words.
How long have you been a fan?

Forty (49) nine years.

Why should you be selected winner in this category?

There is no bigger supporter of a team than Cowboy Jobu. His job is bringing fans together and spreading the mojo for the Cowboys. For three years now Jobu has traveled the country uniting fans. He's been seen with NFL players to the Mayor of New York., he's hung out with Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders to hexing RG3 at training camp, from the Super Bowl to the Pro Bowl Jobu has been there helping his fellow man and sharing it all with his fans. I can't say that Jobu has any power or not but he was in Tony Romo's locker last off season. Great season. He's Charles Haley's profile picture, after five times not getting into the Hall of Fame he is now in. Two days after working with Tyron Smith he got his $95 million contract. I could go on...

What triggered your passion for sports?

Growing up watching my dad rooting for the Cowboys. This wasn't easy since we live in the Washington DC area.

Favorite sports moment?

Growing up watching my dad rooting for the Cowboys. This wasn't easy since we live in the Washington DC area.

Who would you like to meet and why?

Jerry Jones. So Cowboy Jobu can spread the mojo for the Cowboys from the top down and everywhere in between.

What charitable programs are you involved with?

United Way (Community Blitz, Play Sixty, Hometown Huddle, Human Trafficing etc.)

How does your family feel about you passion for sports?

They love that I enjoy it so much and help me with spreading the mojo.

How was your character created?

I have a friend that is a die hard Steelers fan and wanted to go to the Super Bowl. I couldn't take him but I took a Steelers towel and took pics for him at all the sights of Super Bowl. I shared it and it was like I was bringing my friends along with me. The following year an Eagles fan said the Cowboys suck so bad that not even Jobu could help them. (Jobu from the movie Major League) So I made Jobu and took pics of him everywhere I went. The funny thing was people want to know the story and a picture of him. That's when the light bulb went on. Whenever anyone asks about Jobu I tell them the story and take their picture. Then they are part of the story. To date Jobu has been to 33 different states and 31 NFL markets. To date he's only banned at one training camp that's the Giants. Jobu is a little hard to explain, more like something you have to experience. Check him out at

How important is it to you to have an Award Show for fans?

It's great for us fans to be recognized for our love of our team. It's also a great way to broaden our reach. My moto is spreading the mojo. You get the funny with Jobu but you also get a message about doing the right thing and friendship. Jobu is all about the Cowboys but has fans from all across the NFL.

What would winning the What A Fan Awards mean to you?

It would be a great honor. I've been humbled by being nominated with all of these great fans. Never thought I was on the same level as all these great fans. I never did Jobu for recognition it was just as a way to share my experiences with my friends. With a win From What A Fan and all the power behind it, it would be wonderful to build a greater reach to spread the mojo.
